A Complete Garden Makeover in Cardiff – Contemporary Design with Premium Finishes
At Excellent Landscapes, we recently completed a full garden transformation in Cardiff, delivering a modern, structured outdoor space that combines durability with strong visual impact.
The project centred around a complete redesign, beginning with the installation of a 2×1 Scandinavian red wood fence. This fencing choice provides a clean, contemporary backdrop while offering long-term resilience against the elements. The rich tone of the Scandinavian red wood adds warmth and contrast, framing the new hard landscaping perfectly.
For the main patio area, we installed large-format 600×900 porcelain tiles to create a sleek, open feel. These were finished with a Brazilian black slate border, adding definition and a premium edge detail that sharpens the overall design. The border creates a crisp transition between surfaces and enhances the geometric layout of the space.
To introduce further depth and character, we incorporated additional patio areas using contrasting tiles in both colour and size. One of the standout features is a darker patio laid at a precise 45-degree angle. This diagonal installation adds movement and visual interest, breaking up straight lines and creating a dynamic focal point within the garden. The darker 600×900 tiles were again framed with Brazilian black slate borders, ensuring continuity throughout the design.

Around the tree area, we installed K.L. key kerb edgings to provide structure and long-lasting definition. Decorative stone was used within this feature to create a clean, low-maintenance finish while enhancing drainage and visual contrast. This detail not only protects the tree base but also elevates the overall design with a refined landscaping touch.
To complete the transformation, we constructed two steps finished with Brazilian black slate bullnose edge tiles. The bullnose profile provides a smooth, safe edge while maintaining a high-end aesthetic that ties in seamlessly with the patio borders. These steps create a natural transition between levels and reinforce the cohesive look of the entire garden.
